Kokoda Memorial Walk (1000 steps)

The Kokoda Memorial Walk (1000 Steps) is located within the Dandenong Ranges National Park.

Whilst visiting the steps, you will get a small glimpse into the physical effort experienced by the Australian soldiers during 1942.

I’m thinking that we get off quite lightly considering that when we are walking up the steps, we are not carrying laden down backpacks, we’re not wearing army boots, missing home or in fear for our lives!

My niece and I at the start of the steps.

Took 26 minutes from the carpark to the start of the steps and 28 minutes to the top.

In preparing for the Appalachian Trail I am trying to do more and more outdoor type activities that include rocks, steps,  sand etc.

I also wanted a bit of a gauge on my fitness level now that I’ve been going to the gym for seven months.

Halfway up and sweating like a heart attack victim – one lady stopped and seemed a bit concerned. I assured her it was okay, but I shouldn’t have had those cigarettes beforehand!

Little children were skipping up the steps and looking at me as they passed by….hmmm did nothing for my self esteem 😊
