Boronia Peak

I was completely ‘stoked’ (you’ll get use to the mix of Aussie, NZ and Maori colloquialisms), to finish this walk in 2 hours and 30 minutes – of course this is the straight walking time, I deduct the time off I spend taking photos, videos, puffing my guts out and taking time out by pretending to tie my shoes. 🙂

Stats

Length: 6.6km return
Walk: 2 hours 30 minutes
Track: Steep
Grade: Medium
Start/Finish: Tandara Road car park
Nearby: Halls Gap
Permits/bookings: None required
Safety: Take care of cliffs and supervise children at all times. A good map should always be carried. Wonderland Walking Brochures are available from Brambuk the National Park and Cultural Centre Halls Gap, or from a local Grampians Visitor Information Centre.

As the walk started out I was thinking – wow this will be nice bit of a stroll and was hoping like the other medium grade walks, that the pace would pick up and I wasn’t disappointed…

This is the fourth Grampians walk I’ve done where the grades given have been accurate. This is definitely a good medium grade walk. As you ascend the path becomes rockier…

You do come to narrow sections that need care and you wouldn’t want to do this walk with mist or fog covering the mountain…

The views along the ridges are fantastic, giving you a really good 360 view

The medium grade track soon kicked in about halfway to the top, where it became steeper and more challenging…A scramble over some rocks and up the peak and rewards are obvious…

Doing these walks in preparation for the Appalachian Trail is definitely building some excitement for me. This is a great walk and highly recommend 🙂
