GSWW – Day 6 Battersbys to Pattersons

Distance: 13 km

Grade:
Easy to Moderate (this is my assessment and totally subjective ๐Ÿ˜Š)

Great South West Walk Map

Awoke this morning to the sound of rain on the tent…thank goodness that didn’t last long at all. Frank attempted to wipe his tent down…not sure why at the mo especially if it keeps raining ๐Ÿ˜Š

Really looking forward to Nelson tomorrow and having a shower, a good meal at the pub and a nice bed. Frank and I did Rock Paper Scissors for the bed/bunks in Portland, Frank got the bed so I get the bed in Nelson – sounds great to me.

Been missing the internet a bit especially the weather reports so you know what is coming up.

The couple we met yesterday, who had done the WA Walk heard my laugh (from down the road at their canoe camp ๐Ÿ˜ฎ) this morning so the lady came up to ask more about the Appalachian trail. Her partner was really taken with the idea and I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up doing it.

The views along the river were spectacular and an iPhone just doesn’t do it justice.

It’s not always the Big scenery that amazes and astounds it is also the little things.

The trail itself varies quite a bit, the sections that are management vehicle tracks are great for making up some kms.

We have seen a wide range of widlife so far; Euchidnas, Roos, Wallabies, snakes, lizards, ants and while we see lots of fresh Emu pop, they remain elusive.

Also saw and heard our first Koala in the wild! Had us captivated. Picture isn’t so good as he was up pretty high.

Had an excellent view from the Pattersons Campsite and was quite surprised at the lack of mozzies being right by the river with very muddy banks…haven’t really had an issue with them the whole trip.

Our comments in the Hiker visitor log books have gone from daily happenings to a focus on food – ah how similar we are.

We haven’t built a fire yet although each site has had the facilities and wood available – neither of us has the energy left…as Dad would say: nothing has been left on the field ๐Ÿ˜Š
